In 1930, W Böhme, a musicologist from the University at Greifswald, documented a Sondershausen source of arias from early German baroque operas by Melchior Hoffmann, performed in Leipzig in about 1710. Numerous arias from this source include prominent parts for fagotto. Böhme’s annotation on the material from Hoffmann’s opera “Die asiatische Banise” in Sondershausen reads: “Sehr Wertvoll !!! Einsig erhaltene Musik dieser Mitteldeutschen Früh-Barock-Oper”
